It is never too early to start getting children prepped and ready for their first day of school. That’s the idea behind the Kinder College Camp hosted by UT Permian Basin’s HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents for Pre-K Youngsters) Program.
The FREE, week-long camp is focused on getting preschool age students ready for kindergarten.
Students will get hands-on, interactive lessons in four fundamental academic areas -- language, math, science and art. Trained-professional teachers will teach basic writing and math fundamentals, along with listening and problem solving skills.
Leaders of the program say for many students, this is their only exposure to a classroom setting before their first day of school.
“Kinder Camp provides children a free, safe, nurturing and fun place to learn and interact with other children,” Dr. Diana Ruiz, Assistant Professor and director First 5. “This is a great step toward preparing them for kindergarten.”
At the end of the week, each student will go home with a bag full of school supplies so they can be both mentally and physically ready for their new chapter of starting school.

For parents interested in the HIPPY Kinder College Camp, there is another opportunity for them to sign up this summer in Midland. A second camp will be July 23 – 27 from 8am to 12pm at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 S. Main St. in Midland.
