- Young Boy Donates Books to First Five Program
A young boy is getting into the spirit of giving, just in time for the holidays.
Colton Gregg asked for books for his 7thbirthday – books that he planned to give away. He donated more than a dozen books to the UT Permian Basin First Five Program Tuesday afternoon.
First Five Director Dr. Diana Ruiz says Gregg’s one donation will impact dozens of families.
“We serve families that may or may not be able to afford books. I don’t think Colton realizes that he’s touching 20 or 30 families with this donation,” Dr. Ruiz said. “Our home parent educators will go to homes, work with parents and teach them to read to their children; that’s what these books will help us do.”
First Five is a grant funded program that focuses on a child’s first five years of life. Four services operate under the First Five program. Home visitors work with first-time mothers. They can help families track important milestones and offer support to young fathers.
