Permian Basin Water in Energy Conference Kicks Off This Week
The Permian Basin is one of the most important places on Earth—and this is no overstatement. The Texas Tribune reports that the U.S. just surpassed Russia as the world’s top oil producer. The paper states that oil from our area will account for 80 percent of the growth in global supply over the next seven years.
The success of our region hinges on one vital resource: water. Industry leaders will talk all things H20 at the upcoming Permian Basin Water in Energy Conference. Experts will take a look at the latest research on water and energy issues that could affect the regional economy.
“Water is our most valuable resource,” PBWIEC Chairman Jonna Smoot said. “Water is what is allowing all of these frack jobs to happen; the Permian Basin is fueling the world.”
The conference will kick off with a VIP ceremony Tuesday, Feb. 19that the Petroleum Museum. The next three days of the conference will be held at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena, featuring speakers on a variety of issues like water disposal, recycled water, technology and innovation.
UT Permian Basin is proud to partner with PBWIEC for a second year.
“We understand the value of water in our region and the importance of preserving and protecting it,” UT Permian Basin President Sandra Woodley said. “We are working to build applied research institutes around water and energy that will bring the best minds to our University to contribute to new knowledge that will support the global energy industry.”
