The University of Texas Permian Basin is hosting its fifth annual African American Read-In. This year UT Permian Basin will be paying tribute to Frederick Douglass, 19th century slave turned educated abolitionist.
Frederick Douglass will be brought to life by national touring actor and published poet, Nathan Richardson. Several events are scheduled throughout the day on Monday, February 3. The media and public are invited to attend. Below is a detailed schedule of the events.

Where: Mesa Building, Room 2130 (multi-purpose room on 2nd floor)
Schedule of events:
- 10:00- 11:00 am: Richardson will embody the abolitionist in full period costume
- 11:00- 11:30 am: Question and answer session with Richardson
- 11:30 am -12:30 pm: Lunch provided to attendees
- 2:00-4:00 pm: Richardson will host workshop for poets
The University has teamed up with Odessa Arts and the National Council of Teachers of Education (NCTE) in order to present the University of Texas Permian Basin’s fifth annual African American Read-In.
Nathan Richardson Bio:
Nathan M. Richardson is a published author, performance poet and Douglass Historian. His poetry collections include "Likeness of Being", "Twenty-one Imaginary T-shirts" and "Voices from the Wombs of Wisdom." His work has been widely re-published in anthologies, magazines and newspapers such as the Channel Marker, The Cupola, Coastal Virginia Magazine and the Washington Post. Nathan teaches a variety of workshops for emerging writers and creator and host of the Poetry, Prose & Pizza Open Mic series. Nathan is a former coach and current ambassador-at-large for the Hampton Roads Youth Poets.
Switching hats frequently from literature to history, he is now in his 6th year of The Frederick Douglass Speaking Tour; a living history performance in which he captures completely the physical and spiritual essence of the former slave, writer, orator and abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
