The University of Texas Permian Basin’s Admissions Office has many new and exciting plans for recruitment this year! Our plan this year is to rededicate our focus to the Permian Basin area, which is where we see a vast majority of our students come from. This includes counties up to a 100-mile radius surrounding Midland-Odessa.
The enrollment management team feels it is our obligation to make sure students in the Permian Basin are given the same opportunities and information as anyone else! By doing so, we hope to emphasize the college-going culture in West Texas and give high school students the tools needed to succeed in their higher education journey.
We will be traveling consistently throughout the year to these counties:
Andrews | Dawson | Loving | Pecos | Sterling | Yoakum |
Borden | Ector | Martin | Presidio | Sutton
Coke | Gaines | Midland | Reagan | Upton
Crane | Glasscock | Mitchell | Reeves | Ward
Crockett | Howard | Nolan | Scurry | Winkler |
Our goal in these small towns is to promote higher education, work with high school counselors and teachers, engage with students, and most importantly build lasting relationships with community members. Just a few examples of how we plan to engage in these communities (and already have) include classroom presentations for students, college application workshops for FAFSA/TASFA and Apply Texas, participation in local events or festivals, attend high school sporting events, and provide UTPB alumni and high school counselors with college gear and resources.
