Meet Shelby Bullock, a proud UTPB alumna who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in December 2015 and a Master of Arts in English in May 2018. Shelby is now inspiring students as an English faculty member at Odessa College, where her passion for English and dedication to teaching shine through every day.
Fond Memories of UTPB
Shelby has fond memories of her time at UTPB, especially the close-knit community within the English program. She loved the small class sizes, which allowed her to build personal connections with her professors and receive mentorship from some of the best scholars in West Texas. These experiences were crucial in shaping her academic and professional journey.
Active Campus Involvement
During her years at UTPB, Shelby was deeply involved with the Success Center. She worked as a Writing Fellow as an undergraduate and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant during her master’s program. These roles not only helped her develop her teaching skills but also fueled her passion for helping other students succeed. Shelby’s commitment to academic excellence and student support continues to inspire her work today.
Cherished Traditions and Advice
One of Shelby’s favorite campus traditions was studying late into the night at the library, often staying until closing time. Her advice to current students and young alumni is heartfelt: “Cherish your university and it will cherish you back!” This sentiment reflects her deep connection to UTPB, a place that nurtured her growth and now supports her flourishing career in education.
