This week, we're thrilled to highlight Ruben Guerra, Class of 2020!
Ruben earned his Bachelor's in Communication with a minor in Business Management and is now shaping young minds as a Social Studies Teacher and Cross Country Coach at Midland ISD .
Reflecting on his time at UTPB, Ruben recalls how the small class sizes helped him build strong connections with his professors and peers. As a Division 2 Cross Country and Track athlete, he found a supportive community that allowed him to balance his academics and athletics. UTPB became his home away from home, and staying close to family while receiving scholarships and grants made his college experience even more rewarding.
Beyond athletics, Ruben was deeply involved on campus, serving as the Team Captain for Cross Country, a Falcon Ambassador, a Resident Assistant, a mentor at the Success Center, and a founding member of both the Omega Delta Xi fraternity and the Communication Club, which won New Student Organization of the Year in 2019!
His favorite tradition? Attending the bonfire! The warmth of the flames and the shared sense of community made it an unforgettable experience.
His advice for current students and young alumni: "Do as much as you can while you’re there! You’d be surprised how many opportunities arise from playing a small role in others' success. And feel fortunate to seek an education—it's a privilege worth investing your energy and time into!"
Thank you, Ruben, for all you’ve contributed to the Falcon community and for making a difference in the lives of your students today!
