- Alex Shock: Finding Passion, Purpose, and Community at UTPB
For Alex Shock, UTPB Class of 2017, college was more than an education—it was a transformative experience. Graduating with a degree in Business Management, Alex found his path to becoming the Program Director, On-Air Personality, and DJ for 103.3 KISS FM at ICA Radio, LTD. His journey at UTPB was marked by discovery, growth, and meaningful connections.
"It was a solid experience," Alex says. "I learned more about who I really am, which helped me find my passion in life. I didn't know what I wanted to do when I started there. As time passed, the campus grew, and opportunities revealed themselves in a way that opened my eyes to what was possible." Along the way, Alex forged lifelong friendships, finding a second family among his peers.
An active and engaged student, Alex participated in UTPB Soccer and Cross Country, joined the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, worked as a Resident Assistant, and became involved with the Catholic Student Association. These activities fostered a deep appreciation for campus traditions. "I loved CAB events, especially the annual Speedo Run," Alex recalls with a smile. "If there's a sports event—football, volleyball, swim, tennis, or even E-sports—you should go. There’s a lot of talent at UTPB that deserves recognition, and your support means a lot."
- Alex’s advice for current students and young alumni is both practical and profound:
"Don’t complain about having a lot on your plate when your goal was to eat. You really have no clue what you're capable of. Sometimes, you should just shut up and do it—you’ll thank yourself later." - "Your mental health matters. At the end of the day, you are loved, valued, and you belong."
Alex Shock is proof that with an open heart, determination, and the right support system, the possibilities are endless. Thank you, Alex, for sharing your story and inspiring the Falcon family!
