- Virtual Office Hours available Monday through Thursday 7:30 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm, and Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- Book a time to meet with Student Veteran Services.

- Chapters 33,35,30, and 1606: Certificate of Eligibility/Decision Letter
- Chapter 31: Recipients will receive a PO Number from their VA Representative.
- Required by Veteran applicants: Veteran's Military Transcript
- Required by Veteran Dependents: Proof of relationship
- Spouse: Marriage Certificate or
- Child: Birth Certificate or
- Adopted Child: Adoption Record
- Step-Child: Parents' Marriage License & Birth Certificate

State Education Benefits Provided by the Texas Veterans Commission Texas Hazlewood Act – Tuition Exemption
Please note that the Hazlewood Act does not cover incidental fees, living expenses, books, or supply fees. Additionally, students applying for the Hazlewood benefit must be in good academic standing and must not have any holds that would prevent them from receiving financial aid.
To be eligible for the Texas Hazlewood Act, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The veteran and their dependents must reside in the state of Texas.
- The veteran must have either a home of record in Texas or have enlisted in the state of Texas.
- The veteran must have an honorable discharge.
- Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Child Legacy Hazlewood Act recipients must be 25 years old or younger on the semester's first day.
Submit the application & all supporting documents from your UTPB student email to hazlewood@utpb.edu
- Required by all applicants: each semester, Hazlewood Application, or a Hazlewood continued enrollment application.
- Required for all applicants: Veteran's DD214: Veteran must have entered or had a home of record in Texas to qualify
- Required for applicants who use VA Benefits concurrently or have exhausted/denied the GI-Bill
- Certificate of Eligibility or
- GI-Bill Denial letter or
- GI-Bill exhausted Letter
- Required for Disability Applicants: A current (within one year) disability ratings decision letter from the VA indicating that rating
- Required by all applicants: Proof of Residency | Showing that the Veteran's and the student's permanent address is in Texas.
- Veteran's & Student's Driver's License or
- Veteran & Student's Utility Bills (Gas, Electric, or Water)
- Required by Veteran Dependents: Proof of Relationship
- Spouse: Marriage Certificate or
- Child: Birth Certificate or
- Adopted Child: Adoption Record
- Step-Child: Parents' Marriage License & Birth Certificate
- Tax Dependent: Recent IRS Tax Transcript https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get‐transcript
- Hazlewood Act Recipients are encouraged to register with the Hazlewood Online Database at https://hazlewood.tvc.texas.gov/students/.
- You may use the Hazlewood Exemption and VA benefits simultaneously, except for Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill ®) at the 100% eligibility level or with Chapter 31 (Veteran Readiness and Employment).
