Student life includes the living and learning that takes place inside and outside of the classroom.

The college experience isn’t just about what takes place in the classroom. While earning a degree is first-priority, students also have the opportunity to pursue activities, discover new interests, and build lifelong connections.

Student life at UTPB has really grown and evolved over the last five decades. While it’s unclear when the student life office officially formed on campus, we dug up student event photos dating back to the mid-70's, not too long after UTPB opened.

Today, the Office of Student Life at UT Permian Basin helps students find their place on campus while offering a wide range of services and resources for students to enjoy outside of schoolwork. In fact, they are responsible for bringing to life many fun activities that we have on and off campus.

The Student Life office oversees and hosts all student clubs & organizations, Greek life (Theta Eta, Zeta Xi Nu), Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, Campus Recreation, spirit programs, and New Student Orientation. It’s safe to say that the office is filled with some of the hardest workers on campus!

Dozens of events are hosted every year on campus thanks to Student Life’s Campus Activity Board (CAB). These events include Grocery Bingo (which we are famous for), de-stress activities for finals week, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Homecoming week, Celebration on the Quad, and so much more! Some entertainers brought to campus include music performers, talent acts, comedians, and magicians. You can also expect fun games, craft set-ups, free food, prizes and giveaways.

Other campus activity favorites hosted by CAB include:

  • Homecoming parades, pep-rally, & bonfires
  • Pool parties
  • DIY projects
  • Movie showings
  • Celebrating international cultures
  • Block parties
  • Midnight Breakfast
  • And past favorite, Falconpalooza

Student Life also honors celebrations and holidays, hosting events for Valentine’s Day, Earth Day, Election Day, Halloween, and honoring history/heritage/awareness months.

The Office of Student Life coordinates spring and summer orientation sessions for all incoming freshman and transfer students. In addition, Student Life sponsors volunteer and service opportunities. The Food Pantry is also included, aiding as a free food option for UTPB students in need.

Benefits of involvement

Getting involved in the campus community is vital to every college student. Studies have shown that student success is directly linked to student involvement and is positively related to academic performance, cognitive development, well-being, and multicultural awareness.

Student Life participation eases the transition from high school to college, builds social connections and interpersonal development skills, leadership opportunities, reduces stress, and provides better grade outcomes. At UTPB, we often see the positive effects of highly involved students attributing to higher grades and student re-enrollment every semester.
