Graduate Admission – Master of Arts in Mathematics

Criteria Regular Admission Conditional Admission
Bachelor’s Degree Required – from an accredited college or university Required – from an accredited college or university
GPA Requirement 3.0 or higher in the last 60 credit hours 2.75–2.99 in the last 60 credit hours
Math Background Undergraduate degree in mathematics required (for Math track) Applicants with insufficient math background may be assigned a leveling plan before full admission
Letters of Recommendation Two letters required OR GRE scores (at least one letter must be from a STEM professor) Two letters required OR GRE scores (used to evaluate readiness if GPA is below 3.0)
Coursework Requirement Grade of B or better in at least one of the following: MATH 4315 (Algebraic Structures) or MATH 4360 (Intermediate Analysis) Same requirement applies; the committee may evaluate additional upper-level math courses to assess preparedness
GRE (Optional) Not required if providing letters of recommendation May be required if other application components are insufficient
Leveling Coursework Not required if math background is adequate May be required based on academic history; must be completed successfully before full admission
Ongoing Academic Standards Must meet UTPB graduate performance standards Must maintain minimum CGPA and meet any other academic conditions outlined in the admission decision
