Degree Requirements
- The B.A. in Political Science requires a minimum of 120 total hours.
- All required and elective courses must be completed with a grade of “C-” or better.
- All candidates for this degree must fulfill the basic education requirements and the political science requirements.
Political Science Major Requirements
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science requires 36 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours of required courses and at least 24 semester credit hours of additional upper-level political science courses.
Students are required to complete at least 18 semester credit hours in a minor. Twelve of those 18 credits must be upper level courses.
Political Science Majors Seeking Teacher Certification
Political Science majors can seek certification to teach Social Students at either the elementary (4-8) or secondary (7-12) grade level.
Candidates for TExES tests in Social Studies must have completed the courses listed for each area below or equivalent courses in their teaching fields:
Grades 4-8: ECON 2301, GEOG 1301, GEOG 1302, HIST 1301, HIST 1302, HIST 3350, PLSC 2305, PLSC 2306, PLSC 4335 and PLSC 4336.
Grades 7-12: ECON 2301, ECON 2302, GEOG 1301, GEOG 1302, HIST 1301, HIST 1302, HIST 3350, PLSC 2305, PLSC 2306, PLSC 4335, PLSC 4336, PLSC 3321, PLSC 4321.
