Minor in Spanish

The Spanish Minor complements a host of majors and provides you with a solid foundation in culture and communication. With the growth of the Spanish-speaking population in the U.S., the ability to speak Spanish is more desirable to employers than ever.

Spanish Minor Requirements

A minor in Spanish consists of 18 upper-level semester credit hours.

  • Students must complete following core courses: SPAN 3301, 3302, 3308, and 3310.
  • Students must elect a concentration in either Latin American Literature, Spanish Literature, or Spanish Linguistics (or a combination of the three).
  • Students electing to continue in Latin American Literature will take two (2) additional courses to be chosen from 3321, 4311, 4351, 4359, 4352, 4389 or related courses.
  • Students electing to continue in Spanish Literature will take two (2) additional courses to be chosen from 4301, 4360, 4361, 4389 or related courses.
  • Students electing to continue is Spanish Linguistics will take two (2) additional courses to be chosen from 3312, 4331 or related courses. 
To declare a Minor in Spanish, obtain advice, or seek approval of substitutions for course requirements, students should consult their academic advisor.
