What can I do with a Pre-Pharmacy degree?

Although you may be required to complete a doctorate degree before you start working as a pharmacist, biochemist or biophysicist, a pre-pharmacy or biology bachelor’s degree qualifies you for several pharmacy and biology-related jobs. Some of the jobs give you firsthand experience helping to diagnose and treat diseases and illnesses in children, adults, and animals. In addition, the sooner you start working in your field the better chance you may have of getting promoted after you complete graduate-level degrees.

Degree Requirements

  • The minimum total credits required for a B.S. in Chemistry—Biochemistry Track is 120. Students are required to complete 64 semester credit hours of chemistry and biology courses.
  • All required and elective mathematics, computer science, and statistics courses must be completed with a grade of “C-” or better.
  • All candidates for this degree must fulfill the Basic Education requirements and the chemistry requirements.

Pre-Pharmacy Degree Requirements

  • In addition to the General Education courses, 60 semester credit hours are required in Chemistry and Biology courses.
  • If pre-pharmacy track students gain early acceptance into a pharmacy program they can transfer up to 30 semester credit hours back to UTPB to obtain their B.S. degree in Chemistry from UTPB.
