Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology - Pre-Professional
This B.S. in Biology – PreProfessional PreProfessional concentration will prepare students for doctoral-granting programs, including health professional programs (medicine, dentistry, optometry, etc.) and Ph.D. programs.
Students will earn a world-class UT System degree with advising towards the professional school of their choosing.
Degree Requirements
- The B.S. in Biology – Pre Professional requires a minimum of 120 total credits.
- All required and elective courses must be completed with a grade of “C-” or better.
Biology – Pre-professional Major Requirements
Students are required to complete 36 semester credit hours of degree specific biology courses – 28 must be upper-level courses.
Physics I and II, calculus-based physics, PHYS 2325/PHYS 2125 and PHYS 2326/PHYS 2126 are required by some health professional programs and strongly recommended for all majors on the Pre-professional Plan, or PHYS 1301/PHYS 1101 and PHYS 1302/PHYS 1102.
Majors on the Pre-professional degree plan may take any upper level Biology courses beyond the required courses to achieve the minimum 28 upper level credits.
Students are required to complete a minor with 18 semester credit hours, at least 12 of those credits must be from upper level courses.
