Bachelor of Art (BA) in Education

An education degree is a versatile path for students who envision a future in service to young minds. Our Bachelor of Art (BA) in Education provides the flexibility to create a degree plan best suited for your academic and career goals. You’ll graduate set up to embark upon a list of opportunities, including teaching, social sciences, and humanities. 

The Education major at UT Permian Basin is designed to provide future elementary and middle school teachers with a sound academic foundation in the Humanities, Science, Mathematics, and Social Sciences, combined with reading and pedagogy preparation.  

Drawing on a rich tradition of interdisciplinary study, the program's primary objective is to provide future teachers with the academic knowledge and pedagogical competency to become effective classroom educators. 

The Education degree features tracks for Grades EC-6 teacher certification, Grades 4-8 teacher certification, and a General Studies track for students not seeking certification.

Degree Requirements

  • The minimum total credits required for a BA in Education is 120.
  • At least 48 semester credit hours must be upper-level courses.
  • Earn at least a C grade in all major courses, and maintain a GPA of at least 2.50 in all courses applicable toward the degree.
  • No minor is required for a BA in Education.

Bachelor of Arts in Education Requirements

  • Students must complete required course work in the following areas of study: Language Arts and Reading, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Life and Physical Sciences.
  • Students must complete 15 semester credit hours in a specific area or discipline.
