Petroleum Technology Certificate

The Certificate in Petroleum Technology can be completed by students majoring in Bachelor of Science (BS) in Industrial Technology or Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) in Industrial Technology.  The certificate provides focused training on topics relevant to the energy industry, matching closely to the responsibilities many of our students seek or currently hold in their careers.

Certificate Requirements

  • Students must meet the requirements for an Applied Arts and Sciences, BAAS with an Industrial Technology track or Industrial Technology, BS. 
  • Students must complete a total of 12 semester credit hours.
  • Students must achieve a grade of at least a “C” or better in PTEC 3301 Petroleum Fundamentals.

Petroleum Technology Courses (12 credit hours)

  • PTEC 3302 Petroleum Fluids and Natural Gas Technology
  • PTEC 3304 Drilling Technology
  • PTEC 4301 Petroleum Production Technology
  • PTEC 4302 Pipeline Technology
  • PTEC 4304 Wireline, Mud Logging, and Core Analysis

Internship

  • ITEC 4392 or BAAS 4393 may be applied toward the certificate if the work experience is petroleum industry related.
  • Petroleum Engineering (PENG) courses taken at UTPB may be substituted with department approval.
